The Verdant Hills
The Verdant Hills are the lush, green land of the southern half of Arkenthand, hemmed in the north by the Forest Belt, and in the south by the Southern Rim. It is a peaceful, idyllic, rustic country with many farms and criss-crossing roads. The lands surrounding Edlo and Serraglia are blanketed with irrigated fields, especially Edlo which is famed for its plump, tasty, and bountiful crops. As one moves farther south the land begins to rise into highlands which give way to the mountains of the Southern Rim.
Forest Belt – This is a dense forest in the middle of Arkenthand that serves as a separation between its northern and southern halves. On the southern eaves of the forest sits Edlo and the Verdant Hills, while the northern eaves touch the arid grasslands of The Wild Steppes. The Forest Belt is lush and leafy, with very old trees often covered in mosses. Many small, unmarked streams splash through it and several caves have been found that are home to dangerous kobolds. The forest is relatively safe on the edges but in its deeper and thicker areas live treants, dryads, and dangerous satyrs. There have also been sightings of forest nymphs who lure lost travelers to their doom.
The Southern Rim – This is a short range of mountains that line the southern edge of Arkenthand. Some locals call it “the mountain wall” because it functions as an enclosure for the bottom of the island, protecting the Verdant Hills from the surrounding seas. On the southern coasts these mountains dive down in sheer, rocky cliffs that make Arkenthand’s southern lands unapproachable by boat. Ships are forced to veer around the cape and dock at Serraglia.
